Maa Vindhyavasini Temple
The Soul of Vindhyachal
This famous temple, dedicated to Maa Vindhyavasini or Ma Vindhyachal wali, is the epicentre of divine city of Vindhyachal. Situated exactly on the banks of the river Ganga at Vindhyachal, Ma Vindhyavasini temple is the most sacred and prime shrine of the entire Vindhyachal region.
It is not a single temple, but a vast complex of many temples dedicated to several deities including Goddess Kali, Goddess Saraswati, Lord Shiva, Divine duo Radha- Krishna, Lord Hanuman and Lord Bhairava - yet the most revered is the temple dedicated to Maa Vindhyavasini herself.
The Majority of the idols in this temple complex, including Maa Vindhyavasini, are made of black stone. The Vindhyavasini Devi is depicted as seated on the Lion. She represents Goddess Lakshmi out of trinity of Hindu Goddesses.

Mythological Significance
Mythologically, Maa Vindhyavasini is Mahishasur Mardini (Killer of demon Mahishasur), as enumerated in Chapter Durga Saptashati of Markandey Purana.
